Oban lies between the fruity mainland and smoky island styles of whiskey. The 18 Year Old is only available in the United States. The extra years of maturation give it a mellow, more developed flavor. For example, the sweeter notes of ripe banana and toasted tea-cake found subtly in the 14 Year are amplified here. The rich, rounded sweetness is perfectly balanced by mysterious, dry hunts of sea salt and smoky malt, with a long, textured finish of cocoa and seaweed.
