Neisson Réserve Spéciale Aged Rhum

Located just a few minutes' walk from the ocean on the northwest coast of Martinique, in the shadow of the volcanic Mt. Pelee, Distillerie Neisson is one of the smallest producers on an island of small producers. Still independently run by the family that founded it, they are free to do things the hard, slow, and expensive way. That includes methods you don't see with the bigger, cleaner, more efficient distilleries owned and streamlined by multinational corporations. Whether it be experimenting with aging in new American and French oak (much more expensive than the standard ex-bourbon barrels), employing longer fermentation times, or producing the first ever certified organic Rhum Agricole, all the decisions being made at Neisson are being made by the producers themselves, for the love of the rum.

The Reserve Speciale is aged up to 10 years in new French oak barrels and ex-bourbon barrels. A rich aroma of dark fruit and roasted nuts leads to a hearty body of tropical fruit, almond and smoky oak. Rich vanilla hues accented by hints of spice ascend in the warm, lingering finish. Bottled at 42% alcohol by volume.
